Design and build

The PVS-14 housing is machined to the AN/PVS-14 footprint in a waterproof magnesium-alloy body that meets MIL-STD-810G. That matters in practice: it shrugs off rain, dust, and the knocks of a working night, and it accepts standard dovetail and bayonet mounts so it can move between a head harness, a helmet shroud, and a weapon rail without proprietary adapters. At under 350 g, it is lighter than the Wolf-14 despite the tougher shell.

Controls center on manual gain, a feature absent from cheaper night vision, letting you dial brightness up in deep shadow or down under a bright moon to preserve detail. A 27 mm F/1.2 objective gathers light efficiently; focus runs from 0.25 m to infinity; and a built-in IR illuminator plus automatic bright-source cut-off round out the feature set. The Level 2 tube: what the grade means

AGM grades its Gen 2+ tubes by cosmetic and performance quality. Level 1 is the cleanest, highest-resolution selection; Level 2, used here, is the second-best described by AGM as having a very limited number of spots in Zone 1, the central area of the image where blemishes are most noticeable. For most hunting, observation, and general use, a Level 2 tube delivers a clean, usable image at a meaningful saving over Level 1.

This NL2 uses green phosphor (P43). If you prefer the natural greyscale of white phosphor or want AGM’s highest Photonis FOM 1400-1800 tubes, step up to the PVS-14 NL1 (green, Level 1) or NW1 (white, Level 1). Because tubes are individually selected, ask for the resolution and figure of merit for the specific unit.
